If you're looking for a book scanner, and you haven't started your search yet, you're going to see the name "Pentax DSmobile 600", and there's a reason why. After I've done all the research on the market studying a few book scanners, I've found this particular model to be by far the best one on the market that will work for you.
This scanner weighs only 12 ounces, and measures 11 inches in length. It has a very user-friendy sheed-fed design that makes it very easy to scan a book. What you're going to find with most other scanners it that the feed tends to jam, or it doesn't work at all.
The scanning modes that come equipped with this particular Pentax model is 48-bit, 24-bit true color, 8-bit, as well as a 1-bit bi-level black and white. It works with Vista, 2000, ME, OSX 10.3 and later.
What I've found in the reviews regarding this particular model is that's really quiet, it scans quickly, and you can take it on the go. I've found that the biggest complaint with most scanners is either that they take too long to scan, or they are way too loud. If you're in a quiet business environment, this is the last thing that you want.
Yes, the scanner is a little on the high side in price ($100+), but you're going to find that it works with a lot of software online, it converts to PDF, and it lasts a fairly long time, making you not have to worry if it's going to break day by day.
Overall, it's an excellent products, and if you're considering a book scanner, you will want to put this at the top of your list!
