HDTV is rapidly gaining in popularity as HD content becomes available. In response, retailers are stocking a more varied selection of TVs HD from different manufacturers. When shopping, consumers can easily compare HDTVs on price, size, clarity and other features. However, the terms of the guarantee is generally not advertised or easy to find.
Since the period holiday just passed and many people probably bought or received an HDTV as a gift, I thought I would examine the conditions of HDTV manufacturers warranty of two sold on the Amazon site. For comparison, I chose Sony, a manufacturer of well known television, and Coby, a lesser known manufacturer State New York based electronics. In addition, I compared the guarantees for two 32-inch models sold by both companies.
Sony includes a guarantee 1 year parts and labor coverage and repair service is provided at home. Coby Warranty provides 90 days parts and coverage of work, but in-home service is not provided. Furthermore, not only being a consumer responsible for shipping the Coby HDTV for repair, but they must include a check for the return port to receive the product back.
What is the conclusion? Sony may have a more expensive (about $ 50), but if something does not go beyond 90 days and before one year has elapsed, Sony offers the best protection guarantee. Even if something goes wrong in the first 90 days, at least with Sony you will not be responsible for costs of return transportation for repair. However, if you decide to buy the cheapest HDTV, consider purchasing an extended warranty protection so that you're covered in case of problems beyond of the original warranty period short.
To understand the warranty for any product you are looking for, ask the store. The store is required to have available and it is your right as a consumer to be able to examine them. If shopping online, find the security is more work. It is unnecessary at forcing online retailers have warranty available, although some online sites may provide the basic conditions.
