While most devices - computers, telephones, televisions - have answered the call compact with aplomb, printers have been a little more time to jump on the trend of downsizing. Parts such as gears in motion, ink cartridges and, of course, paper posed serious challenges for innovators to try to bulk up the printer. Fortunately, a couple of companies have found a loophole and used to produce handheld printing devices.
Shorter than a ruler (10 inches) and weighing just over one pound (including battery), the Pentax PocketJet 3 Plus with Bluetooth (pictured) is an excellent example of small, lightweight travel printers currently hitting the market. The PocketJet 3 Plus loses much of the mass by integrating the conventional printer thermal printing technology. The technology (one of the pillars in most fax 1990) eliminates the need for ribbons, ink and toner, applying heat instead of special paper to make images appear. Of course, this means that, in addition to the already high cost of portable printer ($ 449.00 on the Pentax website), an individual must continually buy compatible paper ($ 10.99 for 100 sheets of letter size on the Pentax website). But you do not really expect such an extreme portability does not come at a cost, you have done?
On the positive side, the PocketJet 3 Plus can print up to three pages per minute are easily mounted in a vehicle, and print wirelessly from Bluetooth-enabled devices when they are 100 meters. Another printer with thermal printing technology at its core is the Planon PS910 Printstik. Retailing for just $ 299.99 less expensive, this handheld also allows users printing from laptops, smart phones and PDAs through Bluetooth technology. With minimal movement of parts and the "portability robust "in mind, the Planon Printstik is slightly heavier than the PocketJet 3 Plus (about 1.5 pounds), has a lower resolution printing 200 dpi (the aforementioned PocketJet model has a resolution of 300 dpi) and uses rolled paper cartridges that are completely inside the printer. Apart from that, both printers are remarkably similar in appearance and function (Although I can not speak for performance).
Although the Pentax PocketJet 3 Plus and The Planon Printstik offer the kind of travelers printing compact portable devices have been dreaming of, nor really is ideal for home or office. Above all, these printers are designed for emergency use or need, making them applicable only to a very specific niche audience: business travelers. Meanwhile, the printers on the desk tops everywhere (at least the best quality Versatile cards) continue to take an excessive amount of surface space. As computers grow more compact, convenient and powerful to minute, printers seem to rest on their laurels (which, in terms of consumption patterns are not all very impressive). Although the emergence of Printers travel bag is a cool development, where are the smaller, more efficient desktop printers for everyday use? When someone answer this call?
