Sharing a network printer from Windows XP or Vista to Windows 7
We can share a printer between Windows 7 and Windows XP. printer sharing between Windows 7 and Vista has become a reality. Now I'll show you a way to share a printer in Windows XP or Vista Windows 7.
Tips: It is different to combine "share a printer between Windows 7 and Vista" and "share a printer between 7 and Windows XP "together.
Share a Printer in XP
To share a printer from XP click Start and select Printers and Faxes.
In the Printers window and Faxes Right click on the printer to share and select Sharing.
In Printer Properties window, select the Sharing tab and the radio button next to Share this printer and give it a short name without spaces, then click OK.
Share a Printer in Vista
To share the printer on a Vista machine click Start and type printers in the search box and press Enter.
Make Right-click the printer you want to share and select Sharing from the shortcut menu.
However, in Printer properties, select the Sharing tab, check Share this printer and give the printer name. Make sure the name is something simple and without space, and then click OK.
Tips: In these examples, we use 32-bit versions of Windows 7, Vista and XP on a home network base. We use an HP PSC 1500, but keep in mind for each printer different in order to find and install the correct drivers may vary.
Another method
If the above method does not work you can try the following for XP or Vista. In our example, when you try to add the printer connected to our XP machine, it is not recognized automatically.

In the Add printer window under Find a printer name or TCP / IP, click the radio button to select a shared printer by name. You can either type the path to the printer or click Browse to find it.

Add to Windows Printer 7
Now that we have the printer on Vista or XP configured to be shared, it is time to add it to Windows 7. Open the menu Start and click Devices and Printers.
Peripherals and Printers in click Add Printer.
Next click Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth.
Windows 7 will locate the printer on your network and once found his click Next.
The printer been added successfully ... click Next.
Now you can set it as default printer and send a test page to verify that everything works. If all goes well, next to the printer add screens and you should be good to go.
