Canon Pixma iP1800 Inkjet Printer - Review and Cartridge choice
The PIXMA iP1800 is a no frills, a printer for entry-level sells for less than £ 40 but instead of settling for an ordinary cream envelope, Canon has designed a sleek black mirror finish to a case that remains relatively Compact (442 x 237 x 152 mm) and weighs 3.3 kg.
This is a machine that has been stripped to the bare essential. There only two buttons - on / off and paper feed - and a USB 2.0 port for connecting to your computer. Curiously, there is not even a tray (you must therefore provide sufficient space for an office paper ejection), no memory card slots and PictBridge support no.
You have at least given a rest and a flip-up page page sizer which can accommodate everything from 10 x 15 cm (4 inches x 6 inches) borderless photos in A4. Although this is a perfectly usable printer paper, you'll probably get the best rewards when building your photo album.
Once the software is in place, you're ready to rock. There only two ink cartridges to install, one black and one color cartridge FINE combines three colors. This is where you start to be impressed, as printing technology uses micro-nozzles shoot droplets of 2pl ink on the page. As maximum resolution FINE print head is 4800 x 1200 dpi, the resulting quality is surprisingly good.
As has become the norm, the printer comes with cartridges low capacity, PG-37, CL-38 and it is economical to replace them with versions higher return when they have more. The PG-40 black replacement cartridge contains 16ml of ink and color CL-41 contains 12ml.
Both cartridges are readily available directly from Canon, your computer store or online discounter like Cartcon.
Shades of black on photo paper and standard sheets are on the gray side of pure literature multi-color black, but acceptable for processing normal pressure or holidays. The colors are vibrant with a higher degree of clarity and detail and that the cartridges used Canon ChromaLife100 system, your photos are guaranteed a lifetime of 100 years. Not that you're likely to be around to contest this warranty, sure.
The PIXMA iP1800 is no slowpoke either, managing to deliver a 6 x 4-inch borderless photo in just 70 seconds. Quoted print speeds 20ppm of documents average of 16 ppm in mono and color.
The bundled software includes Canon Easy-PhotoPrint excellent, which takes the strain of the impression of a or multiple images in a wide range of formats and sizes, as well as Easy-LayoutPrint, which lets you create your own album, calendar and stickers. There are Good news for users of Windows Vista too, you will not have to download patches or add-ons to get you started. And it Mac compatible too.
