When we think of things and go many places, I decided to 7D. I went to a week long trip to Italy. The camera comes waiting - good. Party the video camera does not take much training. Editing is another matter. But since I'm not an expert, to care! I never understood that the ability to integrate the rules of this unit.
Advantages:
- Usability. Since I am familiar with the 30D, 7D is intuitive. If you arrive at the number of rebels, read the manual, or play with a lot to understand what this camera can do.
- He will answer your weaknesses so far. As you travel along the Cinque Terre, tricky lighting. Auto ISO, but it has really helped the image quality. Useless to say that the camera is an instrument, must understand how it is used.

Incredibly Versalite camera
From the start, I do not own this camera (have you seen the price ???). But I work with a guy who owns one, and I am motivated to comment on it.
I work with a new camera guy on a small independent film that was shot in the Sacramento area. I go behind the scenes photography. It was shooting that day with a Steadicam, which is a very expensive. I'm looking for pro-consumer camcorder as I seen many times before. Instead, he is there with the Canon 7D. I think this happens? Why he jumped from a camera on a Steadicam? But he shooting the film in its entirety on this!
He was hired to shoot this film, and the matter is that it brings its own equipment for the shooting. He said he still has a bit of professional camcorders, Canon 7D but not HD quality is excellent, and the camera is inexpensive for what it does. The more I thought, the more I wanted to make this camera.
The quality of the photographs he has taken is excellent. Strikingly good, as a matter of fact. And the film quality is excellent too.
Now I have the equipment of Nice, both film and digital Nikon, and Canon MiniDV camcorder. But my Nikon does not shoot HD video. I did not really shoot video to be a superb quality (I mean my cat is cute and all, but ...). So I do not need this camera, since I already have a camcorder Nice. In general, I have too many cameras, period.
I would say that if I were in the market for a pro-consumer device that does two things and two things well, I'd certainly by Canon 7D. There would not need a separate camcorder. This saves money, potentially lot of money.
For quality images and video, the price is very reasonable. My Nikon that takes almost no cost me stills about the same.
Very highly recommended. If you are even thinking about this unit, out to buy one! I would buy this camera. It kills two birds with one stone, so to speak. I guess that's the direction that many high-end cameras and even medium term are less money in the long term, less lugging cameras, fewer tapes and cards to carry. It is also much smaller than a camcorder large, it is lighter, easier to store, and handier to carry around.
Canon has a real winner here. Five stars + + + for the Canon 7D.
Honest review of the 7D
I bought my 7D in January 2010.
I used this camera for a bit, as in still and video capabilities. I will examine both separately to explain the advantages and disadvantages of each side of the camera.

Advantages:
Awesome-ISO range and low noise
AF-Large (very, very quickly)
Frame-rate is ridiculous
-18mp is wonderful. Great detail.
-Picture Styles are extremely satisfactory.
Since I'm more of a video of a person photographer, I really learned to appreciate the pictures of this equipment. They are clear, even in terrible lighting conditions. Even pictures taken in standard ISO 3200 have very little noise.
I shoot in manual mode, but when I need to get photos taken in a second quickly, I find myself returning to the green box and clicking the Auto Focus mode and firing off a few images in seconds. The photos are impressive. I saw photographs of events, which has saved me a few times.
I bought the body only if I can use the extra money for a 3rd party lens, the Tamron 17-50 F/2.8. It is a great goal, but the range is clearly designed to "get walk "as I do, but when I'm away, the end of the range of 50 mm are usually not close enough, not fast enough.
I must say, for a semi-pro camera, the remaining side of the camera is the culmination. There are very few things to complain. If you have the lenses you necessary, this device will create lenses beautiful images.
Now for the drawbacks: Video.

Rolling shutter is when the camera takes a picture by "rolling" of the scan lines down CMOS sensor instead exposing the sensor at a time (called "global risk"). This is particularly evident in the high-action scenes and fires flashing. Shooting 720 at 60fps, it is reduced, but it is still evident, especially in a moving car and looking at large objects such as trees and poles (they appear to look). This camera is best used in scenes with little action as a stabilizer of a tripod or shoulder editing (kind of defeats the purpose of having a camera phone).
Chroma Sampling
I understand that some readers will not know what it is. But the film people who are considering buying this camera, this is for you.
The sampling ratio is 4:2:0. Isn't that in choosing a green screen. But another side effect is color calibration is affected by this. It creates annoying artifacts in images. There are online tutorials on how to upload custom image designs greatly increase the dynamic range of the camera (And custom Picture Styles for creating incredible colors in the camera), but there is still something that affects the film noise.
Noise Abatement
The reduction of noise in the video is not nearly as good as the image side of the camera. Whereas some may not be the best available updates, they will stimulate the ISO, and once it picks last 1000iso, noise becomes more apparent. Canon markets this unit as a monster in low light situations (This is), but the noise is very painful to see, especially when the footage is mixed with HVX-200 images. The difference is obvious.
Thus, since a good portion of buyers will not really for video, most of my cons are irrelevant. It will be a wonderful camera for clips birthday and holidays. But for people who want to buy this (or 5D) for film production (like me), the limits should be considered.
It is a good camera for dramatic films with little or no action. But the action is a difficult thing to understand about this camera without looking gelatinous.
Overall, this is a great camera. In fact, a wonderful camera. It is limited in the side of the video, but for $ 1700, it offers a capacity of relatively cheap high definition (More quality films HD camcorders are $ 3000 + and they have enough lenses) and a great "equalizer" for film students or independent film productions.
For an example of how the camera with areas together, I have this video I made. View strange lines created in the flashing lights. Also, be warned, this unit will be destroyed if lasers hit the sensor (as shown is certain videos online).
